Colleagues working in international development and/or the humanitarian field: Can you help me improve this list? See link for giving input at the bottom of this page.

According to my super scientific recent poll, there are the top ten reasons that we keep making posters:

  1. Because those expiring grant funds aren’t going to spend themselves.
  2. Because graphic designers also have the right to feel their families.
  3. Because there’s a perfect space under the stairwells of our offices that needs something to capture the dust that keeps collecting there.
  4. Because the District Health Team needs a large white space to map key areas for their upcoming measles vaccination campaign.
  5. Because posters look great in the photos in our reports (we especially love photos of people having conversations while holding enormous posters).
  6. Because analog is back in style. Content that is adaptable, shareable, inexpensive, and eco-friendly is totally overrated.
  7. Because people love to read!
  8. Because information is what people need to “change their behaviors.”
  9. Because we couldn’t afford the banners and billboards requested by our government counterparts.
  10. Because of that article in the Lancet about the impact of the posters, as shown in a recent randomized controlled trial.

Would you like to offer a contribution to this list? Your awesome reason has the opportunity to replace one on the list above. Or perhaps we need a “top twenty” reasons list? Please click here to add your top reason. Also click if you want to join the “we love posters” club. T-shirts available for purchase.
